Use newspapers, the internet and other resources to find pictures of different types of vehicles, animals and people. You should rank them in order from slowest to fastest stating the fastest speed they can travel at. Find AT LEAST 10 examples.

You might want to track down some speeds which are world record speeds, eg fastest animal, car etc

For 2 of the transport choices you should find out how long it would take to travel to a destination of your choice.

For example
Travel to London by Bike - Speed 10 mph (miles per hour) - Distance (find from Google maps)
https://maps.google.co.uk/   386 miles

Time = Distance / Speed  = 386 / 10 = 38.6 hours  = 38 hrs 36 mins

If you want paper to create a poster of your speed investigation then please come and ask.

Reading - Visualization Skill

Read the following extract from Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson.

The paper had been sealed in several places with a thimble by way of a seal; the very thimble, perhaps, that I had found in the captain's pocket. The doctor opened the seals with great care, and there fell out the map of an island, with latitude and longitude, soundings, names of hills, and bays and inlets, and every particular that would be needed to bring a ship to safe anchorage upon its shores. It was about nine miles long and five across, shaped, you might say, like a fat dragon standing up, and had two fine land-locked harbours, and a hill in the centre marked "The Spy-glass", There were several additions of a later date; but above all, three crosses of red ink - two on the north part of the island, one in the south-west, and, beside this last, in the same red ink, and in a small, neat hand, very different from the captain's tottery characters, these words: "Bulk of treasure here".

Your task is to create your own treasure map using the information from the above extract. To help, it is a good idea to highlight the words and phrases that describe the location and terrain.

Why do you think the hill is called "Spy-glass"?

All About Me
You should complete your 'All About Me' document which will be added to your PLP.

  Olympic Assembly

Note - This is a 2 week task, to be completed by  Thursday 24th.

During the week commencing 28th May, we will be celebrating Olympic Week. On Friday 1st June each class is to represent a particular country.

P7 are representing Team GB.

Your task is to investigate some interesting information about team GB during the life of Modern Olympics, which started in 1896.

You will be allocated 1 of the 27 years when a Summer Olympic occurred to research:
  • Where did it occur ?
  • What was the size of the GB Team ?
  • Significant achievements / unusual events
  • Stars of the GB Team.
  • + anything else you think is of interest
It would be fantastic to create a time line of your findings - so you will need to capture your information on a poster.

In addition, you should select 1 member of the current GB team to investigate. You will be expected to get into 'character' for your member, identifying what your HOPES & DREAMS are for this unique event.

REMEMBER you could be a Paralympic representative.

You will need to inform Miss Lewin / Mr Hyde of your character as we would like to have 58 individual representatives.
