P7 - Wed 27 February 2013


Reading
P7C
You have now been provided with a new reading book this week. You should read regularly, following the plan agreed by your Literature Circle Group.

You are to read the agreed number of chapters and be prepared to report back to the group following the format discussed in class whilst undertaking the role agreed by your group.

In addition everyone should be prepared to share any words they have found which are either unusual or you do not understand.

You MUST also provide a weekly prediction of what you think will happen next. Remember you must provide your group with information from the text which supports your prediction. (You are able to explain why you think your prediction will occur).

REMEMBER - you will be reporting back to your group on TUESDAY 5th March.

Your task is to read the 2 books alloacted by the end of this term (only 3 weeks away) and answer the questions linked to the book.

Spelling
Learn Spelling Words for Wednesday  6 March. Words this week are based on words ending in 'ent' or 'ant'. These may be found at: These words may be found at:

Pupils working solely on the core list are expected to:
  • research at least another 3 words ending in 'ent' or 'ant'; try to choose challenging words to add to your list, or
  • 3 personal words (errors) from previous weeks / or 3 words of your choice.
Remember if you spelt any words incorrectly, you will need to learn these so you can transfer them to your 'friendly' word list in your 'Helpful Spelling Jotter'

For those pupils working on Useful Words/Personal Spelling Words, they should learn words on the following list, which you have selected for your group.

Social Studies/Science - Research / Presentation
You are to research into an influential Scottish citizen who has made significant contribution to enhancing society.

Areas of influence could be :
Art, Business, Engineering, Exploration, Literature, Law, Medicine, Music, Science, Sport

You should put your findings together by creating a Biography on your citizen.
Target word count 250 words


NOTE - This is a 2 week activity. You have until the 13th March to complete your research.

You should also be prepared to explain to the class your research and include why you selected this particular citizen to report on.Your talk should last at least 2 minutes.

Numeracy and Mathematics


For this week:

 P7 H - Have tasks set up on the Maths website -http://www.studyladder.co.uk/
All groups have tasks working with fractions linked to class work.

Remember to target a score of 8/10 or better - until this is achieved the task will remain on your list.

This week all groups have 3 tasks.

Reading
We have now finished studying newspapers, so will be returning to reading novels.

You will be provided with a new reading book this week. You should read regularly, following the plan agreed by your Literature Circle Group.

REMEMBER - you will be reporting back to your group on WEDNESDAY 27th Feb (we will be involved in World of Work day on the 26th) .

Writing - 500 Word Essay

You need to complete writing your 500 word essay and then type it up on the computer. It needs to be completed for Friday 22nd as it requires to be submitted online via

You will bet some time in class to help complete this but you need to have completed most of it by Friday - school time is used to tidy up the essay.

Health & Wellbeing

P7 will be studying changes which take place to both boys and girls during puberty as part of our living and growing project. This provides the opportunity to explore the changes that will be experienced both physically and emotionally.
You should discuss the worksheet with a member of your family or friend before completing it.
